Have You Ever Had This Opportunity?

Have you ever found yourself dining in a restaurant or sipping cocktails in a club where a pro piano player was dazzling you with some of those chord flavors that you just wished you had a handle on ... and then approached that player to ask for a tip or two (or wishing you had the confidence to ask)? One of the great things I always enjoyed doing in my earlier years of musical development was looking over the shoulder of another pianist who really had it together when it came to playing chords, improvising, etc. (I still do!) Usually, they didn't mind... more often than not, they shared what they knew with enthusiasm. If you've ever had the same opportunity, you know as well as I do that these very, yet valuable, sessions (sometimes a minute or two in duration) seem to really stick with you, since they often serve as "turning points" in our journey. There really is nothing that can replace those times when a pro is willing to share a few ideas that you never might have thought of on your own. If you've ever had such an opportunity, you know that 30 seconds of interaction with such a pro can leave you with more valuable "food for thought" than hours of lessons!
